It's a Good Friday... literally! On this day each year growing up in Australia, my Mother would be in the kitchen early preparing Hot Cross Buns. It was a tradition that my family would look forward to every year, with extended family arriving by mid-morning to help devour more than a few of the delectable, still warm from the oven, soft and spicy fruit buns spread with salty butter.
This tradition of baking is one that I've tried to continue where ever we have been at the time. Luckily at this time of year you can find these buns in store as well so when I've not been at home in my kitchen I have been able to enjoy a similar tasting bun.
I do much prefer to bake my own and so that's what I'm doing today! My kitchen is covered in flour as I'm without a mixer and making them by hand... but it's a once-a-year treat and it's a wonderful tradition full of great childhood memories that I hope to give to our daughter as she grows up. Speaking of which, this week I'm dressing the baby bump in week 33 above, still easy to disguise if you wear all black :)
I hope you are able to enjoy some of your own Easter treats and traditions today, Happy Good Friday!
